Președintele Curţii de Justiţie a Uniunii Europene și profesor de dreptul Uniunii Europene, Universitatea din Leuven. Koen Lenaerts deține un doctorat în drept obținut la Universitatea Catolică din Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), cu o lucrare comparativă care analizează jurisprudența constituțională a Curții de Justiție a Uniunii Europene și a Curții Supreme a Statelor Unite. De asemenea, are un Master în Drept și un Master în Administrație Publică obținute la Universitatea Harvard. Anterior, a fost profesor invitat de drept la Universitatea Harvard (1988-1989), unde a predat cursuri despre Dreptul European, și profesor la Colegiul Europei din Bruges, Belgia (1984-1989).
