Rolul cheie al Curții de Justiție în integrarea europeană

The autonomous system of law, established by the Treaties of Rome, has developed enormously in the past six decades as the European Economic Community, focused – as its name suggests – primarily on the purely economic aspects of integration, became first the European Community and ultimately the European Union. In order to mark the fascinating story of that evolution – from a Europe of markets to a Europe of citizens – and of the role of the Court of Justice in that process, the author concentrates on the part played by the Court of Justice in three key aspects of that story: the creation of the internal market, the establishment of democracy and the rule of law at EU level, and the institution of EU citizenship.

În ultimele șase decenii, ordinea juridică autonomă instituită prin Tratatele de la Roma s-a dezvoltat enorm în măsura în care Comunitatea Economică Europeană, axată – după cum sugerează numele său – în principal pe aspectele pur economice ale integrării, a devenit mai întâi Comunitatea Europeană, iar în cele din urmă Uniunea Europeană. Pentru a marca povestea fascinantă a acelei evoluții – de la o Europă a piețelor la o Europă a cetățenilor – și a rolului Curții de Justiție în acel proces, autorul se concentrează asupra acelui rol jucat de Curtea de Justiție în trei aspecte ale acelei povești: crearea pieței interne, instituirea democrației și supremației dreptului la nivelul UE și instituirea cetățeniei UE.
